PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, or better known as PUBG, is one the most successful game of all times. It is also one of the most influential games ever as it has popularised the Battle Royale Genre.

PUBG is one of the most sold games ever. In fact, it is the second bestselling Xbox One game with over 5 million copies sold. The game has an active player base of over 10 million players per day. It is also on Windows PC in addition to Xbox One. Moreover, a mobile version of PUBG is available for Android and IOS devices.

PUBG – A Vivid Concept

The concept of PUBG is simple. 100 players will jump out of a plane on a wide map. All the players are devoid of any weapons and armor, so nobody has an unfair advantage over the other. However, players can have cosmetic gear on. The cosmetic gear doesn’t affect the gameplay how so ever.

Then the players are supposed to raid the houses and buildings on the map in order to acquire gear and supply. Once the players have gathered sufficient gear, which is limited by their backpack, they are supposed to get killing. The killing continues until there is only one man left standing, the winner.

There are many customization to weapons such as scope, grip, etc which can find all over the map to increase the stats of the selected weapon. There are also a number of melee weapons such as a pan, a dagger and so on. These are in addition to the med-kits which restore the health of the players. Since the map of PUBG is very big, it is not possible to guide it on foot but the game has made sufficient provisions. There are various vehicles scattered across the map. These vehicles include motorbikes, cars, jeeps and even motor boats. Each of these vehicles has its own perks and cons. For example, the motorbike is quick but offers little to no protection and can carry only two people. The jeep, on the other hand, can carry up to four people and offers good protection but it is rather slow.

All the gameplay is limited by ‘Play Area’ which gets smaller and smaller at regular intervals of time. Staying out of the play area for longer times can result in health points up to the point where you just die.

The PUBG Gameplay Keeps You on Your Toes

PUBG offers a very unique and exciting gameplay. Given its a wide variety of platforms, it is no surprise that it is one of the best selling games of all time. The game also offers crossplay so you can play with your friends who have a different platform than yours.

However, it should be duly noted that the concept of the ‘last man standing’ is not PUBG’s original idea, despite the claim they make. PUBG derived its ‘last man standing’ concept from H1Z1, another free to play the game with the same concept. However, even H1Z1 is not the original developer of the idea. The original idea of the ‘last man standing’ mode was developed just as a community developed mod of Minecraft. It was known as ‘Minecraft Hunger Games’ back then.

Yet, the gameplay of PUBG is very fun nonetheless.

PUBG is a game that uses all your senses. You need to be very alert while looting a house or apply a medkit, looking out for the enemies at the same time. Since it is such a vast open world, you can be shot down from literally anywhere. So you must be quick to identify the source of the firing and seek a cover quickly. In addition to fleeing, you must also spot enemies and shoot them before they shoot you or hide in cover.

The other aspect of PUBG is the inventory management. As soon as you’ll be dropped off the plane on the map, the first thing you’ll have to do is gather supplies such as weapons, gears, medkits etc. All of these are accommodated in a backpack, which is also picked up on the map. The amount of items you can carry in your backpack is limited, so you must pick up only what you need and drop what you don’t. You’ll also use the backpack to customize your weapons and arrange your supplies, so make sure to make judicious use of it. The items you pick should also match your playstyle- if you’re planning to play sniper, you can’t go around with a shotgun and a heavy armor. Instead, you’ll have to find a stealth armor and a scope.

PUBG Mobile

If I have to describe the mobile version of PUBG in one word, I’d say ‘Marvel’. It is a marvel to fit such a huge game on a mobile device and still maintain the same level of enjoyment. It is not the same to play the game with touchscreen controls as it is with a keyboard and a mouse or a Gamepad. But the developers have smartly inculcated the controls and made them intuitive. You can also customize the controls, graphics, and sound as per your preference. These features are very rare in mobile games.

PUBG - A New Wave After Pokemon Go
Verdict: PUBG is a shooter game that really defines the Battle Royale genre. It inculcates vast maps, tons of gear and vehicles, and much more into a feasible time limit of 20-25 minutes maximum. It does not anyhow compromise on the fun. The cross-play feature is very nice and allows you to play with your friends who have a different platform than you. The mobile version of the game is a technical marvel since. The game offers tons of pros and fewer cons, almost none as compared to its pros. It provides all the more reasons to try out the game. PUBG is an excellent game that deserves 90/100.
