Plants vs Zombies is a light-hearted game that has been enjoyed by people of all ages and fans of all genres. The cute and cartoony animations of plants shooting peas out of their mouths at zombies to keep them away from the lawn are quirky, yet brilliant. The basic ideology behind the game keeps the player indulged in for hours.
The latest addition to the series’ line-up is Plants Vs. Zombies Heroes. Plants Vs. Zombies Heroes is built upon the basic formula of aligning plants against zombies to protect the lawn but the latest game feels and plays much differently. The gameplay is now based on drawing cards. The zombies will do the same. Each will have a turn. The gameplay will not turn out haphazardly, instead, it’ll be turn-based. At first, the game may feel like Blizzard’s popular card game Hearthstone or Fable Fortune, but once you’ve spent some time with Plants vs Zombies Heroes, you’ll realize that the game has its own charm.
Plants vs Zombies Heroes Roles – Play as Plant heroes (and even Zombie Heroes)
The basic gameplay is rather easy and simply spread out. There are five playable lanes in the lawn or the play zone. You can draw out one card in each lane. Zombies always play the first move, the plants have to act accordingly. But for the first time ever in a Plants vs Zombies game, you can play as Zombies.
As the name Plants vs Zombies Heroes itself suggest, the game is based heavily on playable heroes. Each hero represents a different type of class such as Magic or Combat. Once you’ve chosen the main hero to play with, you can only choose from a subset of his class cards.
One of your main objective right from the beginning is to collect cards and build your deck. You do so primarily by playing and progressing through the game, but you can use real-world money to purchase some powerful cards via microtransactions.
Crisp and Cartoony Graphics
Plants vs Zombies Heroes really shines in its presentation. The smooth jazzy background music and crisp cartoon animations are just great. Then there are the comic-book styled animations when the hero uses its superpower. It presents a visual and audio treat which add up to a great overall experience. What’s even better is the fact that there are no significant amount of ads even in a free-to-play game.
Plants vs Zombies Heroes – Verdict
Plants vs Zombies Heroes is a delightful experience that revamps the fan favorite. It introduces various new elements to Plants vs Zombies, especially with its take on card-based gameplay. But the same card-based gameplay sometimes feels a little restraining and limited. There are also a number of microtransactions that I’m not a fan of particularly.
- New and refreshing take a fan favorite. Exciting card-based gameplay.
- Many heroes to collect and play with
- You can play as zombies for the first time ever
- Gameplay may feel limited and restraining
- Loads of Microtransactions
