Cyberpunk 2077, a game that was announced 6 years ago, made an appearance at E3 2018 and generated a hype that was far beyond any game. While only a short cinematic trailer was released for the general audience, there was a behind closed door 45-minute beta gameplay for select individuals. A lot of details had surfaced since then from sources including the people who saw the gameplay, leaks and even CD Projekt Red.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a First Person RPG

The biggest shift from the developers hit Witcher 3 is that Cyberpunk 2077, their next game, will be a first-person RPG shooter unlike the witcher, which was a third person RPG. Many fans have expressed their disappointment on the change in perspective but CD Projekt Red had a valid Excuse.

When Peter Gelencser, the lead level designer of Cyberpunk 2077, was asked about the same he said “First and foremost, I really enjoy all the attention the subject is getting, because it is important. This (change is perspective) has been an educated decision. The first person view is there so you can see things happening up close. And you can interact with the things in a visceral manner with the game world. It worked out well with our exploration of the genre.”

Peter’s statement sounds valid since Cyberpunk 2077’s world is said to be massive, way bigger than that of Witcher 3 and way more detailed. Moreover, the developers also said that they wised Cyberpunk 2077 to be a game of its own rather than a Witcher game is a sci-fi setting.

Cyberpunk 2077 Has Deeper RPG Mechanics

Witcher 3 had RPG mechanics such as skill tree and gear customization, but Cyberpunk 2077 will take it to the next level.

Cyberpunk 2077 won’t just hand you a badass protagonist. Rather you have the ability to create your own custom character in the game, owing to its RPG mechanics. The character customization feature was leaked prior to E3 along with a screenshot but later the feature was confirmed. However, it is not certain if the leaked image was real or fake.

CD Projekt Red tweeted on their twitter handle “You are V (pronounced as ‘Vee’), a cyberpunk. In a world of cyberenhanced street warriors, tech-savvy netrunners and corporate life-hackers, today is your first step to becoming an urban legend.” The tweet was accompanied by two character images. The studio later confirmed the character customization and you can play as either a man or a woman.

Skilltree and Classes

In an interview with Kotaku, Patrick Mills, the lead quest designer said that there will be 3 main classes. Solo, Techie, and Netrunner, with a lot of sub-classes. The Solo is a sort of straightforward character who goes in, shoots and gets the job done. Techie is more inclined towards tech while Netrunner is sort of stealth/hacking type. Talking about the skills, there are 6 main skills that you upgrade as you level up.

Cyberpunk 2077 Gameplay

There is the RPG side of the story and gameplay with dialogue choices and branching narratives, a class that CD Projekt Red has mastered. Coming to the combat, every successful hit does a damage to your enemy which is denoted by a small number.

There are also a number of factions you can join. One such faction is The Trauma Team. It is a medic service which will rescue you even in the darkest corners of the Cyberpunk world. But only if you have enough money. They’ll also kill your enemies who are causing the damage. If you don’t have the money, they’ll simply kill you. You can either join or use this faction, like many others.

Cyberpunk 2077 does not have a release date as of now. However it will be available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
