The 3rd day of Los Angeles E3 2018 was jam-packed as not one or two but three presenters had their presentations on June 11, 2018.

E3 Square Enix Conference Full Details

The first presenter of the day was Square Enix. Square Enix had a very limited number of announcements, and a majority of them had been announced previously in Microsoft’s E3 conference. Such games included The Awesome Adventures Of Captain Spirit, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Just Cause 4. A few new details about the above-mentioned games were also given out.

However, not everything was old and stale. Square Enix used the E3 conference to present to new and exciting titles.

The first one The Quiet Man. The trailer started out in live action and featured a couple of thugs in an alleyway. As a man walked down the alleyway, the thugs started verbally harassing him until the man declared he was deaf via hand gestures. Then the trailer transitioned back into animation and the deaf man beat the life of the thugs. ‘SILENCE RINGS LOUDEST’ was then featured on the screen until the title took over. Square Enix has not given many details except for the fact that details will be released in August, probably at Quakecon. It sounds like an interesting experiment with a game and the trailer’s description says “an immersive story driven cinematic action experience seamlessly blending high-production live action, realistic CG, and pulse-pounding action gameplay,”

The next up at E3 was Babylon’s Fall, by Platinum who made the games like Bayonetta, Vanquish and Nier: Automata. The trailer didn’t reveal much about the game except heavy lore for a dark fantasy setting set way back in the history, probably in the days of Babylon.

There were a few minor announcements/trailers as well.

  • A new trailer of Final Fantasy XIV’S new update called “Under the Moonlight”.
  • A new of Dragon Quest XI and a teaser for Octopath Traveler.

That called Square Enix’s presentation to an end. There was no mention Final Fantasy VII remake, Square Enix’s most anticipated game at E3. Well, all presentations can’t be a hit like that of Microsoft.

E3 Ubisoft Conference Full Details

Then it was Ubisoft’s turn. The presentation started with a huge and ridiculous dance number. There was a giant panda in the front, a line of drummers and a bunch of other weird characters. That’s the most creative way to announce the game. Yes, the performance was an announcement of Just Dance 2019, which comes out on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and even the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii.

Then came the gameplay of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, the highlight of the E3 presentation. The game borrows a lot from the last year’s revamp of the series in terms of combat, gear, RPG mechanics and the world, but unfortunately does not borrow the hero Bayek.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey takes in ancient Greece, years before Assassin’s Creed Origins. For the first time ever, you can play the whole game as either a man or a woman. Moreover, for the first time ever in an Assassin’s Creed game, you can choose dialogues which will shape the story and help you pursue romantic interests.

In terms of gameplay, you sail around ancient Greece in your ship similar to Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, a concept Ubisoft has mastered. However, don’t expect the ships to have cannons and mortars. Rest, it’s pretty similar to Assassin’s Creed Origins. Moreover, this time around there will be huge battles between two forces such as Athenians and Spartans and you could be on either side depending upon the choices you made. These battles may even play out without your involvement if you decide to do so. It releases on October 5, 2018, on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

The next game at E3 was Skulls and Bones, another game in the field of Ubisoft’s Mastery- Naval Combat. Skulls and Bones is an online pirate game which does not feature any story. You sail the vat the seas and loot the merchant ships (controlled by AI) of the British, Spanish and the Portuguese empires.

Your ship is fully customizable as per your wish and each ship has special weapons. You can play alone or in co-op in a shared world. If you find yourself in a tough situation against the Empires, you can invite a nearby group or ship. However, let that not fool you for that for the ship that you invited may end up killing you. One thing that is uncertain is how ‘boarding a ship’ works. In Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, you had to weaken the ship and then board it and kill the captain. In Skulls and Bones’ trailer, however, you only had to weaken the ship and then cinematic took over. Hopefully, it was just for the sake of the trailer.

You could say it’s similar to Sea of Thieves. The concept is the same but the gameplay and missions look more promising. Hopefully, it will be not a dull game like Sea of Thieves.

Then came the game we had all been waiting for, waiting for the past 15 years- Beyond Good & Evil 2. It was just a cinematic trailer, revealing way too fewer details, but there are the things I can say for sure. It’s gonna be big, way too big. There will be a bigger spacecraft which will serve as your base and smaller one in which you’ll explore the world. There seem to a lot of memorable characters and even Jade, the protagonist of the first game will be back, probably as a bad guy.

Ubisoft has also partnered with HitRecord, a creative company to make the game even more personal by inculcating art and music by the audience. How it works is such that you can submit an art piece or a lyrics (which may be converted into a song) to HitRecord. The selected pieces will make an appearance around the world of Beyond Good & Evil 2. There’s also a $50k Profit Pool which will be divided among the selected candidates.

There were tons of other announcements that can be summed up here.

  • Trials, the crazy biking platforme game, is returning as the sequel Trials Rising in February 2019 for PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Switch.
  • Division 2 will have raids and free DLC.
  • There is a Donkey Kong DLC for Mario + Rabbids.
  • A new horror VR game, which can be also played on screen, called Transferrence is coming out this autumn.
  • Starlink: Battle For Atlas will feature Star Fox, the lovable Nintendo Character, and will release on October 16 for PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
  • For Honor got a new DLC.

E3 Sony Conference Full Details

At last, it was Sony’s turn. Sony had an intriguing exclusive line-up at E3 2016, and the same line-up with a bit more details at E3 2017. Even at E3 2018, the line-up is pretty much the same with a few new games and details.

First up was the Gameplay trailer The Last of US Part II, which witnessed Ellie all grown up (and lesbian for some reason) at a ball. Then the scene transitioned into gruesome action where Ellie used bow and arrows as well as guns to fight off her enemies in. The game by Naughty Dog looked very promising. However, Joel was nowhere to be seen about.

Then there was another gameplay trailer for Ghost of Tsushima, an open world samurai game set during the Mongolian Invasion of Japan. The trailer presented a very serene and picturesque view of Japan filled with cherry blossoms and gruesome blood. The combat seemed to based on dodge and hit. Once, again a very promising game with no release date.

This was followed by an 8-minute long ‘Teaser’ of Death Stranding, the latest game by Hideo Kojima. It looks absolutely stunning, but we still don’t know anything about it, we’re absolutely clueless. I believe there is some time travel element in the story. The 8-minute long teaser made no more sense than the first teaser released 2 years ago.

Then it was the turn of Spiderman. A gameplay was revealed which showed 5 prominent villains of the game in a prison break sequence. This Spiderman, unlike the one from MCU, is mature with 8 years of experience but still has that goofy sense of humor. In the end, Spiderman was defeated but then someone came to his aid, someone he could not believe. But the trailer snapped just before the helper was revealed.

After all the new details of old games, came the turn of new games.

The first one was Control by Remedy, the people who made Quantum Break. Nothing much could be said from the trailer except that it looked very similar to Quantum Break and the protagonist has the ability to telekinetically lift stuff.

Lastly, at E3, Déraciné was announced, a PS VR game by From Software, the people behind Soul Series and Bloodborne. Once again, nothing much could be said about the game from the trailer. But it looked different than From Software’s other games.

  • A few other announcements at Sony E3 conference.
  • Resident Evil 2 remaster will release on January 25, 2019
  • Kingdom Hearts III will have Pirates of the Caribbean world.
  • Nioh 2 was announced

That called the third day of E3 to an end. Tomorrow, Nintendo will be the sole presenter on the last day of E3.
